Tungaloy's DoPent pentagonal face milling cutter incorporates double sided inserts with five cutting edges on each side to cut tooling costs.
The design of the cutter combines an extra thick insert design with Tungaloy's SS-Fit system that improves strength around the insert hole to increase insert density. The cutter also has a wide clamping aspect that gives the insert stability and good tool life under heavy cutting conditions.
The DoPent is available as a bore or shank type cutter.
The bore type has a close and extra close insert pocket position that can accommodate anything from 4 to 20 inserts, depending upon the required diameter and material to be machined.
The cutters range from 50 to 160 mm diameter and are suited to machining a wide variety of materials including, low and high carbon steels, alloy, tool and stainless steels, grey and ductile cast iron and aluminium alloys, with a hardness level up to 300HB.
Tungaloy has made a series of inserts available for the DoPent to machine this diverse range of materials at a wide variety of machining parameters. With an MJ insert for general machining, the W series of wiper inserts for finishing applications and the AJ range for aluminium machining offered.
For machining aluminium alloys and sticky materials, the DoPent has air holes to remove excess swarf. The inserts have an inclined cutting edge and large axial rake angle that contributes to the removal of chips from the contact area.
