Extending its successful range of TAC Mill cutting tools, Tungaloy has launched the new RoundSplit series of radius milling cutters.
The RoundSplit range incorporates serrated inserts to reduce vibration and cutting forces, as well as improve chip evacuation for long overhang applications.
RoundSplit has been developed to efficiently machine low and high carbon steel, alloy, tool and stainless steel as well as grey and ductile iron, aluminium alloys and heat resistant alloys. Regardless of the material to be machined, RoundSplit improves swarf evacuation, productivity, surface finishes and chip removal.
The RoundSplit series is available as a bore type or as a shank type cutter with a standard, long or extra long length shank for machining cavities and intricate components. The standard shank type cutter has a 150 mm overall length, with the long and extra long series having a 250 and 300 mm overall length, respectively.
The three shank type variations are available with 32, 33, 40 and 50 mm diameter range, with the option of 2, 3, 4 or 5 inserts for a multitude of cutting applications. The bore-type cutter has diameter range from 40 to 125 mm, with cutting heads offering between 4 and 8 inserts for heavy metal removal rates. Both cutter types utilise Tungaloy's unique insert boss that holds the insert tight in the cutting head to improve rigidity and clamping.
The complete range has through holes for air cooling to remove chips from the working area. To aid the removal of swarf, Tungaloy has developed a number of insert designations with round and serrated edges. The round MJ inserts can be indexed eight times, with the serrated NMJ inserts for general machining and the NAJ inserts for aluminium having the ability to be indexed four times. The new insert designations have been proven to reduce spindle load by up to 25 per cent.
The RCMT16 type inserts can cut at up to 8 mm depth while machining at a feed rate beyond 0.5 mm/tooth, to deliver productive machining. The new series of inserts is available with Tungaloy's AH725, AH120 and AH140 coated grades, as well as the KS15F carbide grade.
