Matsuura builds 5-axis LX-160 models with emerging technologies in mind

The LX-160 is a 5-axis addition to Matsuura's LX series of ultra-high-speed, ultra-high-precision linear motor machining centres.

The LX-160 has been designed from the ground up, but follows in the footsteps of the LX0-5AX, which, says Matsuura, has proved capable and cost effective in delivering reliable high rapid traverse rates and in excess of 40,000 rpm spindle speed performance over long periods. The LX-160 features include: travels of 500 by 250 by 300 mm XYZ, -125 to +10 B and 360° C; maximum workpiece capacity 160 mm dia by 230 mm high up to 20 kg; 46,000 min-1 BT30/KSK-E40 spindle speed; and rapid traverses XYZ of 90 m/min, B 100° and C 200°. The hand-built LX series, launched in 1998, has been supplied in bespoke variants to precision moulding, dental and medical equipment, motorsport, satellite and aeropace companies. In response to emerging sectors' machining and processing needs, and the growing spectrum of materials to be processed, the LX-160 will shortly be joined by the LF-160, LS-160 and LV-500.
