Insert likes heavy roughing

TaeguTec has developed single-sided chip breaker insert for heavy rough machining applications. Suited to applications in the wind power and shipbuilding industry, the new HY development is available as CNMM and SNMM inserts with a chip breaker.

In fact, the new inserts have been developed in conjunction with customers producing heavy components such as the tower flanges, main shafts and swing bearings for wind turbines, with heavy roughing applications in low carbon steel, alloy steel and additional materials commonly used in the heavy industry sector the target. Capable of machining up to 15 mm depth of cut and at feed rates beyond 1.4 mm/rev, the chip breaker delivers excellent swarf control when facing, internal facing or general turning. With a new edge preparation process that reduces forces and heat, plus the chip breaker itself, the HY insert is said to deliver excellent tool life and productivity benefits. Currently available with TaeguTec's TT8115 and TT8125 insert grades, customers with alternate material or application ranges can obtain a quote from TaeguTec.
