TaeguTec HT inserts for heavy machining applications

TaeguTec has developed a Heavy Turning (HT) Chipbreaker range of inserts, for extremely heavy turning operations, such as in the wind turbine and shipbuilding industries.

With the HT inserts, the research and development team at TaeguTec has created an optimal insert design that efficiently evacuates swarf from the cutting area. The design also dissipates heat away from the cutting edge to guarantee a long and stable tool life. The HT Chipbreaker insert can machine depths of cut from 2 to 11 mm, at feed rates up to 1.2 mm/rev. The new inserts are available with corner radius dimensions including 1.2 mm, 1.6 mm, 2.4 mm and 3.2 mm. The corner radius of up to 3.2 mm prevents insert breakage under heavy cutting operations and the inserts can machine a variety of materials, including numerous grades of cast iron, steel and stainless steel. The range of materials that can be machined is made possible by using TT8115, TT8125, TT5100 and TT7100 insert grades, within the HT range. Additional grades for alternate materials can be ordered to accommodate specific customer requests. To enhance rigidity, improve surface finish and tool life the HT inserts are single sided and TaeguTec recommend that to obtain optimum results, the inserts are used on large, or rigid and robust, machine tools.
