FARO, the provider of portable measurement and imaging systems, has announced an agreement to be the measurement system provider for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 racing team. The agreement means FARO has become an "Official Supplier" for measuring systems and is now a member of McLaren's World Class Partner Group.

FARO will supply measuring systems including several FaroArm Quantum units, the personal CMM FARO Gage, the FARO Laser Line Probe, for non-contact measurement, and software, like FARO CAM2 Q, to Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. McLaren has used FARO technology for nearly 10 years and there are multiple applications for it in the Formula One sector. FARO devices have been used for applications such as wind tunnel scale model build checks, verifying yore, pitch and roll on wind tunnel positions, laser scanning and reverse engineering wind tunnel model modifications for further CFD analysis, laser scanning chassis tubs for inspection and reverse engineering purposes, laser scanning driver seat profiles to create a perfect fit for driver comfort, and general CAD-to-part inspection of composite patterns profiles. "The partnership with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes will allow us to further develop our measurement technology so it will best suit the demands of Formula One applications. FARO measurement systems will ensure quality is of the highest possible level," stated David Homewood, area vice president of sales, Faro Technologies UK. McLaren Racing managing director Jonathan Neale said: "In a high precision, time-critical environment such as ours, it's vital that we can rely on highly accurate measuring and inspection systems in order to guarantee 100 per cent precision within very rapid production and assembly processes. FARO's contribution will not only allow us to increase the speed of those processes, but also improve fidelity and accuracy."
