Two directors of the new company have more than 30 years' experience in the machine tool industry; Robin Bloor started as an engineering apprentice in aerospace before moving into editing and PR. Co-director Philip Wilkinson headed up a company that marketed Spanish CNC lathes and grinding before moving to Spain's Basque machine tool region.
The GER vertical spindle grinding machines can feature X and Y axes that enable internal and external grinding to be carried out in one setting. This also makes it possible to machine, using multi-axis interpolation, smaller off-set bores as well as angled or straight vertical surfaces and non-circular elements. An indexing turret with up to four indexing grinding head stations is optional.
Across the range, an important feature is the large size of components that can be handled. For example, cylindrical grinder capacity goes up to 8,000 mm between centres while rotary table machine can incorporate 1,500 mm diameter tables. Surface grinders can be specified with up to 6,000 mm grinding lengths available as standard. All machines feature Fanuc CNC control systems with front end interactive software developed by GER.
