Citizen Open House sees seven machines ordered

Seven companies ordered new sliding-head or fixed-head turn-mill centres at the Citizen Machinery UK Open House held last month.

Among the first-day orders was a start-up company that will take delivery of the first, fourth generation Citizen M32-VIII, with this followed by five further orders over the next two days, including one from Monument Tools, the UK's largest plumbing hand tool manufacturer. Said Geoff Bryant, Citizen Machinery UK's managing director: "As an in-house event, this had the best overall feel for a decade, customers were certainly very forward- looking and upbeat, which is qualified by the orders taken over the three days." He followed on to say the buoyant industry mood was reflected in the potential for further business in the near future, particularly in the subcontract sector, which is very keen to improve competitiveness. "The level of interest in the newly launched Citizen M32 and L20X and Miyano BNA and ABX was exceptional," Mr Bryant added.. Indeed, comparing the performance of the Miyano ABX-64 SYY against his existing installation of a Miyano BNE-51SY5, John Collier, managing director of Surrey-based Monument Tools saw the potential to not only reduce manufacturing costs by a significant margin, but also to produce larger sizes of the tulip cutter to satisfy a growing international need. The current Tulip cutter ranges in size between 22 and 110 mm and is used for hand-held drain cleaning. For diameters over 30 mm, these tool heads are produced in a single overlapped cycle on the Miyano, which involves milling a series of scallops (petals) to provide cutting edges. Smaller diameter tool heads are produced on two Citizen M32 CNC sliding-head machines.
