September Miyano orders break monthly record; push Citizen Machinery UK sales beyond £2 million for the month

September orders for the Miyano range of CNC turn-mill centres were the largest ever achieved, with six machines being ordered by customers to bring the total order value for both Citizen Cincom CNC sliding-head, of which five were also sold in the month, and Miyano fixed-head turning machines to above £2 million.

Introduced to the UK in the late 70s and now with more than 800 machines installed, Miyano is said to be "proving the first choice for many users in the field of precision bar turning up to 64 mm diameter". This success follows the recent merger of the brand with Citizen and the full integration of the sales team at Citizen Machinery UK, Watford, for both product ranges. Making up the order book were eight subcontract customers and three OEM companies, to which Citizen Machinery UK managing director Geoff Bryant said: "Many of our customers are exceedingly busy and keen to improve their competitiveness, satisfy increased demand and replace older equipment. They not only want to raise productivity levels, but ensure they have reliability of supply, as their customers are tending to demand ever shorter lead times, as well as high orders of quality and keener pricing." The latest Citizen and Miyano machine development offer time savings of between 20 and 30%. Said Mr Bryant: "With the launch of four new machines at the recent EMO 2011 Exhibition in Hanover, involving the top-of-the-range M32 VIII and L20X plus a top-of-the range Miyano ABX 64SYY and BNA 42DHY, we created considerable interest throughout Europe, which, according to our conversations with customers, looks set to continue for our UK open house launches." The fourth generation Citizen M32-VIII adds a third Y-axis cross traverse, an additional B-axis with rotary tools and an option of increased bar size to 35 mm diameter. The Citizen L20X too sports an additional Y-axis to increase its flexibility for simultaneous front and back machining and the ability to carry up to 39 tools. The Miyano ABX 64SYY with 64 mm bar capacity and 6 inch chuck option has twin-spindles with twin 12-station, all-driven turrets having ±40 mm Y-axis cross travel (pictured). Meanwhile, the Miyano BNA 42DHY has main and secondary spindles with an eight-station all-driven Y-axis turret and a totally independent six-station sub-turret.
