Yamazaki Mazak launches Robo Smart Cell component handling

Yamazaki Mazak has designed its Robo Smart Cell robot automation system to maximise machine tool productivity by fully automating loading/unloading and offering potential for unmanned running.

The Robo Smart Cell uses the Mazak standard robot interface that includes a 6-axis articulated robot. Components weighing up to 2 kg can be loaded and unloaded by means of a simple universal infeed/outfeed concept. The cell's loading system also allows the operator to load and unload in one area of the cell while the robot is working in another. The robot system and workpiece load/unload areas are fully enclosed within the safety guarding. A plug-in and play compact design facilitates integration into existing production environments, says Mazak, and all pre-set work is completed before delivery. The Mazak designed scheduling system, the Mazak Cell Controller, provides effective part program management easing changeover from one application to the next. Robot Smart Cell automation can be used with a number of Mazak machines from the Quick Turn Smart and Vertical Centre Smart turning and machining centres, through to the Quick Turn Nexus and Integrex models. In addition to the 2 kg model now available, three further higher weight capacity variants are planned.
