Walter GB extends range of Xtra.tec Point Drills

Cutting tool specialist Walter GB has extended its range of Xtra.tec Point Drills with exchangeable inserts to cover diameters from 12 to 38 mm.

Designed for drilling at depths of up to 7x diameter, Xtra.tec Point Drill features replaceable tips made of Tiger.tec cutting tool materials. The drill is characterised by a high precision prism insert seat in the body to ensure IT8 bore accuracy and superb surface finish. For the newly extended diameter range, Walter is initially supplying the P6003 WMP35 type replaceable tip for stainless steel grades, materials with difficult cutting properties and long chipping structural steels. Other exchangeable inserts for different materials in the above hole sizes will follow. The features of P6003 include a PVD mono-layer coating on a titanium aluminium nitrite base, applied with 'light entry' routines and a soft cutting action - which allows the drills to be used on lower performance machines. These attributes are possible via a moderate rounding of the cutting edge and a special point thinning design.
