Walter GB extends Tiger.tec Silver indexable inserts for ISO P turning

Walter GB has extended its range of Tiger.tec Silver indexable inserts for ISO P turning applications with the addition of MP5 geometries for medium/deep cut operations and RP5 for roughing steels.

The inserts complement the Tiger.tec Silver inserts for finishing (FP5) and for long-chipping materials (MP3), and will generate similar improvements in average tool life of up to 75% compared with traditional products, says Walter. The company adds: "These benefits apply even on demanding materials such as heat treatable steels having a tensile strength of over 1,000 N/mm² and on carbon steels that cause heavy crater wear, due to the optimised microstructure of the Tiger.tec Silver coating and the WPP10S, WPP20S and WPP30S cutting material grades. With tough cutting edges, an open chip breaker groove behind the cutting edge and reinforced chip breaker blades, MP5 is suitable for both smooth and interrupted cuts up to 7 mm deep. Roughing with RP5 can now be performed at 12 mm depths of cut with lower power requirements thanks to a tough positive chamfer on the cutting edge. The chamfer widens in the central area of the main cutting edge and so creates maximum cutting edge
