Xtra.tec Insert Drill range expanded

The Walter Xtra.tec four-edged Insert Drill range has been expanded to include sizes from 16.5 mm to 35 mm diameter with depth to diameter ratios of two to five.

The Insert Drill is available in two geometry variants for medium demand machining conditions as a universal tool with a rake angle of 13°. The E57 tool is ideal for cast iron, steel and corrosion resistant materials. For more difficult conditions when cutting cast iron and steel, the A57 has been introduced with a rake angle of 0°. Due to the strategically balanced positioning of the indexable inserts and combined with the wiper function, in addition to higher surface quality of holes produced and the ability to work to narrower tolerance bands, the inherent rigidity and stability of the design has been acclaimed for the ability to spot drill from solid - and even be applied directly to crowned surfaces. Each of the outer or wiper configured inserts are fully ground around the periphery to create a precision standard profile, and a wide selection of Tiger.tec cutting grades are available. Inserts are easy to exchange through the newly introduced higher torque clamping arrangement which uses TorxPlus securing screws. In order to accommodate the free flow evacuation of chips from the drilling zone, chip flow is optimised in the robust body of the tool with a smooth uninterrupted surface. Each holder is hard nickel plated to resist wear and corrosion and, in order to quickly determine the size of the drill, a cylindrical collar is provided on the outside diameter
