Rainford Precision Machines has launched the Samurai Series of end milling cutters from Union Tool SA for machining hardened materials.

The range of coated end mills, enable economical and highly productive machining of materials from aluminium through to carbon and stainless steel, titanium alloys and difficult-to-machine materials up to 55 HRc. The versatile Samurai Series comprises 34 models, ranging from 1 to 12 mm diameter, making them suitable for the mould and die, aerospace, automotive, medical and general subcontract industries. The Union Tool range of Samurai end mills has three series available, the 2-flute GB and the 4-GCR Series of ballnose cutters, and the4-flute GS Series of square end cutters. The two flute ball nosed GB Series offers 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mm diameter cutters, with a length of cut ranging from 2.5 to 18 mm. With a 30° helix angle and the specialist Samurai coating, the solid tungsten carbide cutter can conduct roughing and finish machining at high speed and feed rates. The Samurai GCR Series of 4-flute corner radius cutters is for rapid material removal and high feed machining. The GCR Series has a 45° high helix angle improves swarf removal when machining at high feeds and speeds. This dissipates heat from the cutting edge and, when combined with the optimum geometry design of the radius, the cutters dramatically improve tool life. The solid carbide range is available from 3 to 12 mm diameter with 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm diameters. Each diameter in the GCR Series has a variety of radii. The 3 mm is available with a 0.5 mm radius, while 4 to 8 mm cutters have 0.5 or 1mm radius. The 10 mm cutter has 0.5 to 2 mm radius options in 0. 5mm increments, while the 12 mm cutter has 0.5 to 3 mm radii in 0.5mm increments. Each of the various diameters offers different lengths of cut and shank diameters to suit the specific needs of the end user. Both GB and GCR Series with corner radius deliver exceptional surface finishes with tool life and productivity beyond competitor products. The Samurai GS square end milling cutters are for step, corner and general machining applications. The 4-flute GS Series is available from 1 to 10 mm diameter, in 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mm sizes. Like the corner radius cutters in the Samurai range, the GS has the Samurai coating that makes it suitable for high feed and high speed machining of carbon and stainless steels and titanium alloys up to 55 HRc. All endmills in the Samurai Series have precision ground shanks to within a tolerance of 0.005 mm and are manufactured from high quality tungsten carbide and Rainford Precision Machines recommends that all cutters in the Samurai Series are used in conjunction with rigid and robust machine tools to obtain the optimum surface finish and tool life, due to the high operating feed and speed capabilities of the series.
