Micro end mills machine soft and hard materials

Union Tool (Rainford Precision) has extended its HB range of two-flute Super Micro Diameter Ball End Mills.

The new additions to the HB range include 60 and 80 micron diameters as well as 100 micron diameter. These tools have respective radii of 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05 mm, and they comfortably machine anything from copper to carbon, alloy and pre-hardened steels and cast iron up to 55 HRC. The ultra precise HB Micro series has a diameter and radius tolerance of 0/-0.01 mm and +/-0.002 mm, respectively. This guarantees customers that their cutting tools can meet the accuracy and tolerance demands of any application. The HB Micro series has a length of cut equal to the cutting diameter with a shank diameter of 4 mm and overall length of 50 mm. The new range of micro endmills from Union Tool has a shank taper angle of 11°, this promotes cutter strength and prolongs tool life considerably. Added to this, the HB Micro range has a straight flute that further enhances cutter rigidity. This exceptional stability and rigidity provides outstanding tool life and surface finish, it is claimed. These attributes are combined with Union Tool's HardMax coating, which further extends tool life beyond competitor products, says the company. The design and coating of the HB Micro series enables it to machine at speeds over 50,000 rpm and at feed rates beyond 200 mm/min.
