Turning grey cast iron faster and with longer tool life

The TT6290 grade of milling insert has been specifically developed for the machining of grey cast iron. This new grade has been developed to offer end users excellent tool life with improved productivity through higher cutting speeds and feed rates when machining gray cast iron. The new TT6290 grade combines double coating layers (CVD+PVD) to combine exceptional toughness with excellent wear resistance. The coated layers contain CVD (MTCVD TiCN/Alumina/TiN) and PVD AlTiN, this toughened substrate guarantees improved chipping resistance. This new grade enables end users to increase speeds and feeds far beyond that offered by competitor products. The new grade is available for the TaeguTec ChaseMill, ChaseQuad, Z-Mill, ChaseMould and ChaseOcto cutter, as well as the standard ISO milling insert ranges. The application band of this new grade enables it to work outside the parameters of competitor products. Traditional Cast Iron milling grades operate at surface speeds below 250 m/min and nominally around 200 m/min, the TT6290 has the capability to run at 400 m/min. Running at higher feeds and speeds enables the new grade to give the end user considerable productivity gains. Not only does the new grade reduce cycle times, it also extends tool life to reduce tooling costs.
