Sodick EDM wire promises high quality results

Sodick's new brass e-40 wire, developed in Japan, will enable EDM users to obtain even higher machining speeds and greater accuracy from their EDM equipment.

The wire is available in diameters of 0.07, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25 and 0.3 mm: the 0.07 and 0.1 mm wire is paraffin coated. All wires can be used on both Sodick and other EDM manufacturers' machines. The new Sodick hard brass e-40 wire (Cu/Zn 60:40) is manufactured totally in-house - from foundry, through wire-drawing, to packaging - to guarantee maximum control over every part of the process and therefore ensure the highest wire quality. The claimed unique quality control system, using special diamond wire drawing dies and lubricating oil, ensures that the wire's ultra-smooth surface is free from irregularities, dirt and scratches, providing customers with reliable high quality machining and resulting in significant productivity benefits. The e-40 wire offers excellent straightness, ensuring reliable automatic wire threading, and each spool is individually tested to eliminate curling and torsion. The wire's stable mechanical characteristics include tensile strength of +950N/mm2, elongation of 4% or less and contact sense variation, confirmed in internal tests, of plus/minus 0.001 mm. E-40 wire provides high dimensional accuracy, with a diameter tolerance of between +0~0.002 mm and circularity within 0.001 mm.
