Lach Diamant V-Silent grinding wheel carrier system

The V-Silent is a vibration damping carrier system for the ceramic bonded diamond and CBN grinding wheels from German company Lach Diamant.

The damping properties of steel are distinctly higher than CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic). However, grinding wheels at a certain frequency produce a so-called resonant frequency and a steel body will vibrate over eight times longer, says Lach Diamant. The V-Silent vibration damping grinding wheel carrier system is designed to overcome the natural frequency of steel and to attenuate the resulting vibrations. The company says it will significantly reduce grinding wheel wear and thus a longer service life can be expected. As a damping system is employed, the operating conditions at dressing are altered as well. The infeed becomes smaller and the dressing interval increases. The required surface roughness can be obtained with smaller grit sizes. The diamond and CBN tool manufacturer envisages most benefit from its carrier system will be experienced where large calibre grinding wheels on surface and circular grinding machines are employed to grind high alloyed components such as crankshafts and camshafts, including the processing of carbide or ceramic materials.
