Haas launches VF-5SS super speed vertical machining centre

Haas Automation's VF-5SS is based on the shop-proven Haas VF-5 platform. With 1,270 by 660 by 635 mm xyz travels, the Super VF-5 comes as standard with a 12,000 rpm, inline direct-drive spindle, an ultra-fast tool changer and 35 m/min rapids.

The inline, direct-drive spindle system couples the drive directly to the spindle rather than using belts. This, says Haas, results in smoother transmission of power, less heat and less noise than traditional drive systems. Better surface finishes, extreme thermal stability and very quiet operation are the rewards. The newly designed 24+1 side-mount tool changer is constructed using lighter materials and has a high performance servo motor for below 1.6 sec tool-to-tool changes. High pitch ballscrews and high torque servo motors on all axes provide rapids of 35 m/min. The VF-5SS is part of the Haas Super Speed VMC family, which includes VF-2SS, VF-3SS, VF-4SS and VF-6SS. The two smaller machines are also available with an extended Y-axis.
