The strokes of the standard Dominus are up to 6 m in the X-axis, 1.2 m in the Y-axis and 1 m in the Z-axis. However, the Z-axis of the Dominus Bighas been redesigned, not just to offer increased stroke length, but to strengthen the rigidity of the column. This allows the machine to take load bearing stresses from larger machining cuts with bigger and longer tools. It also enlarges the working area of the machine to accommodate larger workpieces.
Increased to a 1.5 m stroke, the Z-axis on the Dominus Big is powered by twin motors and ballscrews on a gantry-type system for stability and rigidity, even during the aggressive machining operations, says Fagima.
