Distributor Mills plans to stock versatile Doosan DNM 200 5AX

The compact DNM 200 5AX is the third Doosan 5-axis model to be launched by Mills in the last three years and it will be available from stock. It is described as a flexible and functional machine for full simultaneous 5-axis or 4 + 1 processing, capable of high accuracy machining, heavy metal removal or fine finishing operations.

Although the DNM 200 5AX has a relatively small footprint, it has a 200 mm diameter table and is capable of handling workpieces weighing up to 60 kg. A rigid C-frame construction provides good vibration damping and heat dissipation characteristics. The machine can be supplied with a choice of Fanuc or Heidenhain controls and is equipped with an oil-cooled 18.5 kW 12,000 rpm direct-drive spindle, capable of producing 118 Nm of torque. The direct drive delivers fast acceleration/deceleration rates and gives the machine the ability to perform operations, such as rapid rigid tapping, with ease, says Mills. The DNM 200 5AX's power is exploited by the integration of a 200 block look-ahead / 1g capacity data server for high speed contouring. The dual contact Big Plus face and taper configuration supports rigidity and machining accuracy. Axis travels on the machine are 400 by 435 by 500 mm in X, Y and Z respectively, with corresponding traverse rates of 36, 36 and 30 m/min. The machine's 5-axis capability is delivered by its A-axis (+30/-120º of movement) and a C-axis (360º of movement achieved in 0.001 increments). Hydraulic clamping enables optimum A-axis machining capability when the table is tilted over. The tilt axis uses the latest cross roller bearing technology for increased rigidity and reduced heat generation. Rapid rates in the machine's A-axis and C-axis are 20 and 30 rpm respectively. The DNM 200 5AX is equipped with a 30-position bi-directional ATC (BT 40), and tool-to-tool change time is 1.3 sec. Other standard features on the machine include automatic tool measurement (TS27R), a spindle head cooling system for improved thermal stability and 20-bar coolant through spindle capability. The machine also features Doosan's thermal compensation function to reduce the effects of thermal growth to maintain 5-axis machining accuracy.
