Better design and manufacture with SolidWorks 2019 from Dassault

Dassault Systèmes says there are many key improvements in SolidWorks 2019, all of which have been introduced to make design and manufacture easier, faster and smarter. Among the enhancements is smarter machining with SolidWorks CAM/Machinist. For example, the software now allows feed-rate slowdown when approaching sharp corners and arcs. Further CAM-related additions include the ability to create machine-specific machining strategies, and the launch of a tooling offer with improved with support for tapered shanks and other parameters.

Also introduced are sheet metal improvements that speed design and manufacturing. For instance, enhancements to the ‘Tab and Slot’ tool include: default through all cuts for slots; options to customise slot size and corner shapes during feature creation; the ability to select non-linear edges along which to create tabs, versus mere linear edges; and the ability to group tab and slot features so they can all be made uniform and modified as a collective versus individually.

In addition, for sheet metal, when users assign a custom material to a sheet metal part, it is possible to link sheet metal parameters, such as K factor and thickness, to the material. If users change material, sheet metal parameters update automatically.

Dassault also reveals increased productivity and flexibility with SolidWorks Inspection, such as improved ‘Bill of Characteristics’ with a newly developed grid layout and group/ungroup functionality. Furthermore, additional extraction options allow users to include hole tables for use on complex parts.
