AQ900L wire EDM provides solution to machinining of very large dies

Sodick has responded to the growing demand to machine very large dies, particularly for automotive parts such as instrument panels and bumpers, by developing the AQ900L wire EDM machine. The AQ900L incorporates linear motors, developed and manufactured by Sodick itself, on all 4 axes, ensuring a smooth and accurate motion and enabling it to tackle difficult machining operations not possible with conventional ballscrew systems. In addition, the the LP-Control can directly import 3D models. The use of linear motors enables non-contact EDM machining, eliminating the deterioration in machining accuracy caused by worn ballscrews. Each of Sodick’s five core technologies: CNC units, ceramics, linear motors, motion controllers and electrical discharge power supply have been exploited. The AQ900L features a “Jumbo Feeder”, wire supply device, allows up to a 30 kg wire bobbin as standard and supports continuous machining. In addition, the high-speed, automatic wire threader with thermal cutting devices, has been specifically designed for automated unattended multi-cavity runs and the “L Cut” device, chops the ejected wire into small pieces for easy disposal.
