Ajax introduces budget conscious hydraulic/electric precision grinding range

Hampshire-based Ajax Machine Tools International is supplying a six-strong range of surface grinding machines that combine hydraulic power for the table traverse with electric drive to the cross traverse and wheel head.
The grinding machines are available in table sizes from 483 by 228 mm to 1,524 by 508 mm and Ajax believes they are likely to appeal to general workshop, production and training establishment users looking for a high precision grinding capability at a competitive price.
Each has infinitely variable speed control and/or manual or automatic downfeed that can be set incrementally. The wheel head is powered by a 1.5 kW, 2,900 rpm spindle in the smallest capacity AJ-500 H/HD machine, which has a wheel size of 200 by 13 by 32 mm, while the largest in the range, the AJ-1500HS, has a 7.5 kW motor delivering up to 1,450 rpm and carries a 406 by 50 by 127 mm size wheel.
A direct coupled wheel head spindle is mounted on super precision bearings and the machine construction benefits from heavy duty castings for rigidity and grinding consistency. An ergonomically placed pendant control panel is included in the specification.
