ACT extends range of Nine9 corner-rounding tools to meet needs of micro machining

The Nine9 corner-rounding tool range, formerly only available from 1 to 6 mm diameters in 0.5 mm increments, has been extended to incorporate diameters from 0.5 to 1 mm in 0.01 mm increments. The UK agent Advanced Carbide Tooling (ACT) says that this reflects the increasing importance of micro manufacturing and corresponding demand for suitable high precision tools.

These corner rounding cutters consist of a P35 carbide insert that is TiN coated for performance and tool life when machining carbon, alloy, stainless, high alloy and hardened steels, cast iron, aluminium and aluminium alloys, brass, copper and bronze. The Nine9 corner rounding range not only boasts a versatile grade but also provides up to four cutting edges on each insert. Furthermore, the inserts can be used for front and back chamfering operations to improve process capabilities and reduce tooling inventory. Despite the intricate forms and geometries on the small inserts, the inserts are 4 mm thick for rigidity and robustness. Precision grinding delivers exceptional accuracy, says ACT, and also gives high precision location in the insert seat to enhance repeatability and accuracy when changing over inserts. The high quality tool steel toolholders for the Corner Rounding Series range from 6 to 25 mm shank diameter and there are up to 150 mm reaches available, as standard, for applications that demand either extended reach or enhanced rigidity for high quality surface finishes. To this end, the toolholders can have either one or four insert pockets to suit end-users applications.
