ACT extends MicroCut series of turning, parting and grooving tools

Advanced Carbide Tooling (ACT) has introduced additional insert grades for its MicroCut series of small turning, parting and grooving tools. These carbide TiALN coated and HSS/TiN coated inserts are available in widths of 0.5 to 1.6 mm suitable for ISO standard circlip grooves.

The TiAlN coated insert grade combines both super fine micro grain carbide substrate and XCEED coating technology to produce inserts that have an extremely sharp edge that is resistant to chipping. Also added to the UK manufactured range is an HSS TiN coated insert grade for machining small diameters. This provides a tough substrate with an extremely sharp cutting edge and is well suited to the turning and parting of small parts with intricate features that demand the utmost in precision, repeatability and consistent tool life. The maximum insert reach is 8 mm to allow end users to part off up to 16 mm solid bar, while retaining strength, rigidity and tool life. With a selection of approach angles to meet the individual needs of the end user, these MicroCut grades can be held in toolholders with dimensions down to 8X8 mm for particularly small tool platens. This extends up to 20X20 shanks for larger parting off and grooving applications. A rigid toolholder design further enhances tool life and enables a quick-change system to be used. MicroCut grades can be used for machining a diverse range of materials from steel, carbon steels, alloy steels and stainless steels, through to copper, bronze, brass, aluminium alloys, titaniums and high chrome and nickel content materials.
