WNT says customers praise its latest boring systems

WNT (UK) customers are discovering thanks fine boring has never been so precise or controllable as with the Sheffield-based company's range of micro-boring and digital-boring heads, it is claimed. Customers are reportedly saying that the systems are "the best boring system we have used", the tooling specialist adds.

"The simplicity of adjusting boring bars has been taken to another level with the DigiHead system," says Tony Pennington, WNT (UK)'s managing director. "When combined with the conventional Single-Point and Multi-Head, WNT is able to provide a complete package for the machining of precision bores." WNT's range of Digihead (pictured), digital monobloc boring heads cover bore diameters between 3.0 and 88.1 mm and are capable of micron accuracy, with both positive and negative adjustments being controlled by the unit's backlash-free, direct distance measuring technology. The units feature a digital display, which is only activated when the magnet within the adjusting key swipes the unit, greatly extending the life of the easily changeable battery. The clear, easy-to-read display ensures accurate adjustment, even while the head is in the machine tool. They can be operated at speeds up to 16 000 rpm, with further versatility provided by the availability of units as either a stand-alone Digihead with a HSK-A 63, MAS BT40, or DIN 69871 (SK40) machine interface; or a complete kits that include the Digihead and four boring bars. More conventional boring is provided by WNT's Single Point and Multi-Head fine boring sets, which cover diameters from 3 mm to 320 mm. Adjustment is made via a large scale with one division equating to 0.005 mm radial movement. For diameters between 3 mm and 88.1 mm this is achieved using a single adjustable head with one of four boring tools or a choice of two adjustable boring bars. For diameters between 86 mm and 320 mm only two interchangeable bridges are needed to span the whole diameter range, helping to keep costs to a minimum. As with the Digihead system, the Single Point and Multi-Head systems can be purchased as individual items or, as cost-effective kits to cover a range of diameters.
