Poole, Dorset-based engineering company Rovic Engineering has installed a £44,000 XYZ ProTurn 555.

Tim Denison, Rovic's managing director, said: "This is a fantastic addition to Rovic's capability and means we can continue to deliver what our customers want – high spec, advanced engineering components for a wide range of industries. This includes all aspects of production, design and project management through to manufacture. " The lathe will also support the company's apprentice training efforts. Elliott Sanders (pictured), one of the company's apprentices, has just celebrated the first year of his training with Rovic and the second year of his apprenticeship will see him get to grips with the new machine, which has a swing over bed of 560 mm; swing in gap of 800 mm; distance between centres of 1,750 mm; spindle bore of 104 mm; and spindle speed of 30 – 1,800 rpm. A number of specialist high tensile strength custom components for customer Ocean Yacht Systems in Christchurch have already rolled off the production line this week. "Ocean Yacht Systems is delighted that Rovic have made this investment in the new machinery," said Ian Crowden, technical director of thrusters at Ocean Yacht Systems. "We have worked with Rovic for a number of years now and they have always provided us with an efficient service, combined with a fantastic quality of product. It always fills us with confidence when our suppliers show the same level of commitment to their facilities and training as much as we do." Rovic provides a complete, overall turn-key engineering capability and project management. It produces machined components in most materials for its 'build to print' customers and also has a special-purpose machinery design and production capability.
