Mills CNC unveils oil and gas component manufacturing brochure

Exclusive distributor of Doosan machine tools in the UK and Ireland Mills CNC has created a new brochure, aimed at oil and gas component manufacturers.

'Some things are well worth exploring further', details the different ranges of high performance, large capacity Doosan machine tools - classified by technology type - that have a loyal customer following and a proven track record in the sector. Explains Nick Frampton, Mills CNC's managing director: "Year-on-year, we sell well over 450 Doosan machines to precision component manufacturers in the aerospace, defence, medical, motorsport, power generation and automotive sectors. "In addition to these, one of the most important and certainly fastest growing sectors where our machines, especially our large capacity Puma lathes and turning centres, horizontal and vertical machining centres, horizontal borers and vertical turning lathes, are in high demand is in the oil and gas sector. "In 2011 – 2012, sales of Doosan machines into this sector accounted for over 26% of our business and our market share of the large lathe and big horizontal borer markets currently stands at 45% and 65% respectively." The new brochure will help oil and gas component manufacturers identify which Doosan machine tools are best suited to meet their requirements. Some 70 different Doosan machines are included in the brochure, ranging from the company's largest DBC 250L horizontal boring machine (4,000 by 2,500 by 2,000 in its X, Y, Z axes, and 1,600 by 1,800 mm table, through to its largest 24"/32" chuck-size Puma (700 and 800) series lathes, which can machine work-pieces up to 5 m in length. Concludes Mr Frampton: "Our success in the oil and gas sector has much to do with the Doosan machines we sell. But it doesn't explain everything. "An important contributing factor concerns the availability of the machines and the fact that, through our forward-looking stock order programme, we can deliver and install many of our large-capacity machines from stock to customers quickly; sometimes in a matter of days. "Manufacturers operating in the sector are also increasingly using our expertise in designing, managing and implementing complex turnkey solutions. "Our applications engineers' knowledge of different machining methods and the latest manufacturing processes combined with their understanding of new and hard-to-machine materials - many of which are increasingly used and specified in the oil and gas sector - mean that we are ideally placed to help manufacturers develop innovative, proven and reliable manufacturing solutions guaranteed to optimise productivity and deliver an impressive return on investment."
