Mills CNC sees Scottish customers order more

In a record-breaking performance, not only has Mills CNC broken the £52 million turnover barrier for the first time, but the exclusive distributor for Doosan machine tools in the UK and Ireland has also seen sales in Scotland boom during 2012.

According to managing director Nick Frampton: "Scotland made a healthy contribution...weighing-in with close to 20% of the total sales turnover for the year." In fact, the company sold 55 Doosan machines in 2012 (up 10% from that achieved in 2011), and that means that Mills' installed customer base north of the border now exceeds 500 machines. "Sales in Scotland are at an all-time high and have been achieved by a combination of new business wins and strong repeat business from existing customers," explains Robert Sullivan, Mills' business manager in Scotland for 20 years. "Large capacity Doosan machines tools, like our range of Puma 700 lathes, our range of DBC horizontal boring machines, and our large vertical turning lathes (VTS 1620M pictured) were particularly popular amongst customers operating in the oil and gas, power generation and large construction (Yellow Goods) sectors. "It's also worth mentioning that a significant proportion of our sales are now turnkey solutions and are concerned with manufacturing projects that are designed, project-managed, installed and proved-out by Mills engineers." And he adds:"Unlike many UK-based machine tool suppliers, Mills has a dedicated team of service engineers actually based in Scotland. This four-man strong resource ensures that customers in Scotland enjoy a rapid response whether that be installing a new machine or servicing customers' machines on-site."
