The machines comprising a popular MACH MDT-1 turret-type mill, one of the company’s best-selling models and a technology staple for many UK manufacturers’ machine shops and toolrooms, will share centre stage with a new MDV 800 3-axis CNC vertical machining centre that only recently made its UK debut at the company’s Open House in January 2024.
Together, the two machines provide visitors with just a snapshot of the ever-growing and evolving milling machine tool range now available from MACH Machine Tools.
Whilst the MDT-1 turret-type mill, with its rigid design and build, powerful spindle and good-sized working envelope will have obvious appeal to manufacturers, large and small, it is the new production-oriented MACH MDV 800 vertical machining centre that the company is confident “will pull in the crowds”.
The new MDV-series, comprising the MDV 800 and MDV 1100 machines, is a high-performance range of machining centres that delivers excellent cutting performance and improved process efficiencies.
In addition to their DynaPath WinDelta CNC control system, the machines are equipped with powerful BT 40 air-cooled, high-torque 11kW – 15kW 8,000rpm spindles as standard, but can be supplied with direct-drive 12,000 spindles with spindle chiller and through-spindle-coolant capabilities that extends their application potential.
Other standard features include – Hiwin linear roller guides, 24-position swing=-arm ATCs and generous-sized worktables which, on the MDV 800, are 1000mmx 500mm with a 500kg maximum table load.
Both MDV machines are fast boasting 36m/min rapids on all axes and, for improved process reliability, are fully enclosed with armoured telescopic covers.
High precision is assured through the use of C3-class PMI precision ball screws whilst laser interferometer dynamic lead screw compensation enables 6um positional, and 3um repeatable, accuracies to be achieved across the work envelope.
As with all MACH machine tools, MDV models are equipped, as standard, with an impressive range of technology features that include efficient auto-lubrication, flood coolant and wash down systems.
Optional extras that further enhance the productivity and performance of the new machines include - tool and work-piece probe systems, 4th-axis system configuration and swarf augurs and conveyors.
DynaPath Control
The advanced DynaPath WinDelta control, available on all new MACH Machine Tools' CNC lathes, toolroom mills and machining centres, will be another main attraction on MACH Machine Tools’ stand.
Used extensively in the US and the Far East for over 50 years, and with unrivalled technical support that’s described as ‘being the best, and most proactive, in the business’, the DynaPath control is flexible, versatile and easy-to-use and provides users with simple-to-understand navigation and operation screens accommodating ISO and Conversational Programming on one platform.
With online CAD editing capabilities, semi-auto functions and DRO operation, the DynaPath control provides power, speed and capability to even the most discerning machinist.
A key feature of the control, and one that has helped accelerate its acceptance and use by manufacturers, is its remote assistance facility.
When connected to a local area network, the control system’s in-built FTP server functionality provides customers with fast, Wi-Fi enabled remote diagnostic and applications assistance as well as immediate programming monitoring help and support.
This facility, available 24/7, and unique in the machine tool sector, provides customers with confidence and peace of mind knowing that, if they should need it, expert help and advice is only a (quick) phone call away.
Matt Andrew, MACH Machine Tools’ sales director, said: "The two machines we’re taking to the Southern Manufacturing Show will help illustrate the depth and breadth of our milling machine tool range.
"On one hand we have a proven and popular toolroom mill, and on the other a new production-oriented vertical machining centre. And both machines are equipped with the ground-breaking DynaPath control.
“The message we’re promoting to manufacturers visiting at the Show is that “whatever your milling requirements, there’s a MACH machine tool that can more than meet your immediate and future needs.”
