Gamet Bearings supply Taiwanese machine manufacturer

Bearings specialist Gamet Bearings, part of 600 Group, has won a key order to supply its super-precision tapered roller bearings to Proking Machinery Co, a major Taiwanese manufacturer of large flat-bed and slant-bed CNC lathes.

Following extended negotiations over several years between Gamet and Proking, the Colchester-based bearings designer and manufacturer will initially supply 20 large taper roller bearings, with a value in excess of $63,000, for Proking's 14 in (360 mm) spindle bore machines. "The Gamet bearings are manufactured to a significantly higher specification than Proking's existing bearings, which means they offer the manufacturer and also the end user important improvements in spindle run-out," says Steve Smith, Gamet Bearings' technical sales manager. The Gamet bearings are designed to be interchangeable with the existing supplier's bearings, for optimum manufacturing efficiency, and due to be supplied to Proking at the end of October 2010 for installation and trials. "We are also in discussions with Proking for a further potential order of 50 sets of bearings for their 9 in (230 mm) spindle bore machines. If successful, this would represent an order worth over $150,000," continued Mr Smith. Taiwan is already proving a successful market for Gamet Bearings. The Essex company supplies its large size, high precision tapered roller bearings to other machine tool manufacturers, Kingston Machine Tools (King Kong Ironworks) and Kinwa lathes (Chin Hung Machinery Co), based in the thriving Far Eastern market.
