Educational machining package from Ajax Machine Tools International

Ajax Machine Tools International is offering an educational machining training package that includes a lathe and a bedmill, both fitted with Siemens 808D controls, plus 12 seats of PC-based Sinumerik 808D training software for less than £35,000.

Says managing director William Savin: "We have worked closely with Siemens, using its Sinumerik 808D control system to take advantage of a common presentation for both milling and turning operations that reflect the needs of production, workshops and toolrooms in manufacturing. As a result, we are able to provide a package to enable students to have a greater understanding and appreciation of actual machining processes when they take to future employment."

The package machines are based upon an Ajax Interactive CNC 720 bedmill having working strokes of 720 by 380 by 500 mm, with the added flexibility of a turret head having ±90° swivel, and fitted with Siemens 808D control. Meanwhile, the Ajax AJEU 200 Euroturn electronic CNC lathe has a capacity of 200 mm centre height, a 42 mm bore and 750 mm between centres, and the Siemens 808D control.

The 12 seat off-line Sinumerik 808D on PC training software for workpiece programming and integrated simulation can present the features of both Sinumerik 808D control types, giving simple cycle assistance to represent actual machine tool operation.

Ajax builds both machines at its Lymington headquarters, enabling specific options, upgrades and requests to be incorporated into the education package that already includes delivery, installation and on-site training, plus a 'starter' tooling pack and workholding.
