3- and 5-axis pendulum machining combined in Hedelius machine

Combined 3-axis and 5-axis pendulum machining cycles on a single machine tool are now possible on the Hedelius RS80 Kombi moving column vertical machining centre. Incorporating ROTA SWING technology which has been developed by Hedelius for both production and mould and die sectors, both 3-axis and up to 5-axis simultaneous operations can be performed on the same bed. So for instance, initial clamping on the flat portion of the bed can enable the machining of the datum face of a component on one side of the table. It is then relocated from the datum and the other five faces machined using the trunnion fourth and fifth axis unit mounted at the opposite end of the table. The machine is also able to hold right-angle heads and special attachments in the spindle and such is the area of the fixed table that indexing, rotary, swivelling and compound table units are easily accommodated. The RS80 K has x, y and z axes of 2300/3200, 800 and 600, respectively; table size is 800 mm diameter; ATC is 30-tool capacity; and standard spindle speed 8000 rpm.
