WNT adds high performance Ti-HPC titanium cutters to Mastertool range

WNT (UK) has added Ti-HPC solid carbide high performance cutters (HPC) for the machining of titanium to its Mastertool range.

Machining, particularly milling, of titanium and titanium alloys has long posed problems due to excessive tool wear, localised heat and low cutting data. Extensive research undertaken by WNT in the development of the Ti-HPC titanium cutter has resulted in a design, which it says, greatly reduces cutting forces. This, in turn, allows the much higher cutting data to be applied. WNT reports that when using Ti-HPC for milling, titanium cutting data can be increased by as much as 75% and tool life will be extended typically by a factor of two or three. Ti-HPC milling cutter range currently starts at 4 through to 20 mm diameter, with flute lengths up to 41 mm with a wide choice of corner radii.
