Wenzel ScanTec Core M measures up to large turbine and fan blades applications

Core M extends Wenzel ScanTec's Core series with a variant offering a measuring volume of 500 by 500 by 1,500 mm³ for large turbine and fan blade applications. The optical high speed measuring system, based on high intensity white light technology, is designed for fast and efficient in-production testing of serial parts and enables the measurement of highly reflective and mirror-like surfaces. This makes surface treatment prior to inspection unnecessary.

The Core M's high speed movement involved the development of a special dynamic mass balancing concept to avoid system deformation. Its electro-mechanical drives allow optical system accelerations of the up to 4,300 mm/s² and a movement speed up to 800 mm/s. Optimal accessibility of the part and high flexibility of Core M are achieved through three linear and three rotary axes. The measuring system is equipped with a rotary table and a swivel head. Positioning in all six axes is stepless so part and sensor can be positioned relative to each other in an optimal way. Oversized linear guides with wide bearing clearance and on fibreglass mounts enable operation in an enhanced temperature range of 18 to 30°C. The inside of Core M is kept at a constant temperature. Furthermore, a laser based online CAA guarantees machine dependent temperature and movement compensation in real time. To measure parts in series, the process should, of course, be carried out where they are produced – in production. For this reason Core M is designed to be temperature and dirt resistant. Like the proven Core DG and Core DS, Core M is also completely protected against dust oil residues. The closed housing and covered bearings prevent intrusion of dirt. Ventilation slots are covered with filters, to avoid contamination from ambient air. CORE uses the I++ DME Interface and allows the customers' choice of software. The comprehensive control and analysis software Win3DS from Wenzel ScanTec is offered as standard. This software package offers all necessary functionality for measuring and analysing of turbine blades.
