Walter’s ‘Kompetenz’ cutters boost titanium machining

Walter has launched a series of milling tools aimed specifically at the machining of titanium. The tools are a result of the company’s ‘Engineering Kompetenz’ strategy that involves ongoing development work and partnerships with aerospace OEMs and their suppliers, as well as with CAM specialists and machine builders.

The series comprises the Walter M3255 tangential porcupine cutter, and Walter Prototyp Ti40, Ti45 and Ti50 cutters (for roughing, semi-finishing and finishing respectively).

Available in diameters of 50 to 80 mm as standard, the M3255 tangential porcupine cutter can also be supplied at any diameter between these limits, while the Ti40 is available from 12 to 25 mm diameter; the Ti45 from 16 to 25 mm; and the Ti50 from 9.5 to 25.4 mm.

All can be supplied for use with Walter ConeFit modular toolholding technology. ConeFit avoids the unnecessary investment in long, solid carbide tools by being an interchangeable head locking interface system. Solid types are also available.
