Walter Cut SX tool system optimises grooving, parting off and slot milling

The Walter Cut SX tool system from Walter GB provides optimised grooving on turning centres and parting off and slot milling on machining centres to depths of 33 mm. The system uses a self-clamping, single-edge insert, to overcome the cutting depth limitations faced when two back-to-back cutting edges are used.

The Walter Cut SX insert features positive-locking seat integration – achieved through the insert's curved shape – which prevents inserts being 'lost' when under heavy load in the direction of the feed. The self-locking system is based on a new design. The top clamp features very high retaining forces without hindering chip flow and it fixes the insert precisely in the prism seat. In addition, the seat has a contact surface at the back for supporting the insert and, as a result, cutting forces are transferred to the fixed part of the tool in the interests of process reliability. A special key allows insert change in a simple operation. The grooving inserts can be supplied in Tiger.tec Silver PVD cutting material grades WSM33S and WSM43S for steel, stainless steel and materials with difficult cutting properties. Three geometries are available with optimised chip breakers: universal CE4, for medium to high feedrates; positive CF5, for long-chipping materials and medium feedrates; and sharp CF6, for small diameters or thin-walled tubes and low feedrates. All inserts can be supplied in widths from 2 to 6 mm.
