The ToolShuttle, which stores up to 160 m of bending tools, on four levels and in a closed housing, can reduce press brake set-up time by as much as 50%, according to the system's developer Trumpf.
Trumpf's principal aim in designing the ToolShuttle was to provide a central repository for tools not in use, to protect them from production debris and damage. An optional air dryer enhances corrosion protection.
A control system loads the required tool onto the input/output station for where it is transferred via slide to the tool clamping point. This saves time spent searching for the tool and the physical effort involved in tool loading.
With a footprint of less than 6 m2, the ToolShuttle can also save space, yet its 32 storage compartments each hold up to 5 m of bending tools. The choice of storage arrangement can be by tool type or tools can be grouped together for a specific job or families of parts.
