Trumpf introduces laser welding options to improve process efficiency

Trumpf has developed a coaxial nozzle for laser welding that suppresses the vapour plume that contains metal particles which deviate the beam and absorb laser power. Both issues can lead to inconsistent welding depth and irregular seams.

In trials the coaxial nozzle reduced laser power loss by up to 22% while increasing welding depth by up to 40% dependant on process gas and speed, reports Trumpf. The nozzle also reduced weld spatter. A further benefit of the coaxial nozzle is that it reduces operating costs by increasing the service life of the protection glass. Trumpf has also introduced a cassette module for manufacturers wishing to safeguard both their Trumpf OEM laser or TruLaser robot system. It is designed to increase the life of both the protection glass and the optics. It also reduces the risk of contamination by introducing an airflow to blow away any debris from the optics when changing the protection glass.
