Tornos launches Micro 8/4 turning centre with a guide bush

The Tornos Micro 8/4 is a guide bush-system turning machine based on the guide bushless Micro 8 launched in 2006. This has proved most suited to making watch screws but limited in its wider appeal to the industry because of the length of parts it is able to machine.

Taking the tried and tested Micro 8 machine as a basis, Tornos is now able to offer a guide bush machine fitted with four axes and, with two tools from the 'conventional' Micro 8 removed, it is available at a competitive price. Instead, Tornos offers three versions of the Micro 8/4 to meet the needs of specific applications and all are equipped with a fixed guide bush. The turning version is fitted with an 11-position toolholder plate and four fixed axial tools for main and secondary operation. A milling version has a plate for eight chisels, four fixed axial tools for main and secondary operation, and S11 motors with two transverse devices. A gear hobbing version has a plate for eight chisels. Another option is to have the S11 motor with a gear hobbing device. The collet replacement and the settings are the same type as those offered to users of the Deco 10 whereby everything can be set from the front for ease of use and savings in time. The Z1 stroke is 50 mm (more if required) and the tools and devices fitted on the platten of the Micro 8s are already on the market. While the Micro 8/4 machine equipped with a fixed guide bush provides a long parts capability, there is also a simple kit available that will make it possible to use the machine without a guide bush like the conventional Micro 8.
