Tec Systems unveils Hyperion laser cutter

The Hyperion flatbed laser cutting system available from Tec Systems uses a solid-state laser. This sees the power of the beam delivered to the workpiece via a flexible fibre optic, avoiding the need for the multiple mirrors and beam guides used on CO2 laser systems.

Fitted with up to 3 kW of fibre laser power, the system requires less cooling water and offers lower power consumption to achieve the same cutting speed on sheet metal. In particular, it is able to cope with processing reflective materials like aluminium and copper. The system can cut materials up to 8 mm thick.

The Hyperion laser cutter can accommodate parts up to 2 by 1 m on the bed, which also features a Z-axis to cope with different thicknesses of sheet – a capacitive height-sensing cutting head ensures that cut quality is consistent, even if the material is not flat.
