Dormer has introduced improved versions of its taps for Alloy Steels – branded ‘Shark-Line’.
The improved performance of these taps is the result of extensive development work designed to improve wear resistance, increase thread quality, raise productivity and reduce cost per hole.
Made from HSCo-XP powder coated steel for extreme durability, the new taps are available in spiral point (product codes E395 & E396) and spiral flute (product codes E392, E393 & E394) geometries, with either bright finish or TiAIN-Top coating. The TiAlN-Top coating has high toughness properties, promoting extended tool life as well as reduced ‘built-up’ edge and a smooth cutting action.
Enhanced flute design and web thickness promotes a continuous operation by ensuring adequate room for the formation and subsequent evacuation of chips. In addition, back tapering on the spiral flute taps reduces tapping torque during reversing, thus promoting high quality threading.
