Starrag’s uprated 5-axis HMCs slash aluminium machining times

Starrag says that its range of 5-axis horizontal machining centres for aluminium cutting now includes 150 kW variants for the Scharmann Ecospeed and Ecospeed F models, which can accommodate components from 3-20 m long, the Starrag STC 800X with 120 kW spindle, and a three-machine Heckert HEC X5 range with 83 kW spindles.

According to Starrag, the 150 kW spindles on the Ecospeed machines can reduce machining times by 15-20% on typical aerospace structural parts, while the STC 800X can remove aluminium at the rate of up to 10 l/min. With an A-axis range of -110°/+60°, the STC 800X is designed for complex machining in a single set-up, without the use of an angle head.

The HEC 500 X5, HEC 630 X5 and HEC 800 X5 5-axis machining centres have X, Y and Z axis travels that extend from 1,000 by 800 by 1,000 mm to 1,450 by 1,100 by 1,000 mm.
