SGS Carbide Tools launches cutting tools for aluminium aerospace parts

SGS Carbide Tools has launched the S-Carb APR and S-Carb APF. The former has been developed for high efficiency roughing of aluminium aerospace structural parts, such as ribs and spars, while the latter is said to cut machining times on thin wall aluminium sections without deflection and provides a finish superior to that employing traditional waterline machining.

SGS Carbide Tools' multi-layer Ti-Namite coating technology has been improved. Ti-Namite-X is a harder, tougher, denser and more uniform coating, delivering better resistance to abrasion and improved performance in high stress, high temperature applications, says SGS. The company adds that in machining trials in ultra aggressive cutting conditions, it has demonstrated its ability to offer up to three times' the tool life and permit increased speed and feed rates in any application. Z-Carb AP geometry, designed for miniature and micro machining applications, now includes sizes down to 1.5 mm. Image shows SGS' booth at the recent EMO exhibition, where the products were launched.
