Seco introduces Jabro HSS-Co end mills for machining titanium alloys

Seco Tools (UK) has introduced the Jabro JC0710 HSS-Co range of large diameter end mills for machining stainless steels – sub-micrometer grade (SMG 8–11) and titanium (SMG 22) – which are suitable for both roughing and finishing operations.

The Jabro JC0710 HSS-Co range is manufactured from high speed steel/cobalt material that exhibits a number of characteristics that make it suitable for cutting tools, explains Seco. It is hard, displays good abrasion resistance (fracture strength), has good resistance to thermal shocks, and is tough. It is also capable of performing in less controlled conditions than one might expect and can withstand undefined or incidental increased mechanical loads, says the company. These characteristics enable the cutters to achieve high depths of cut. In full slotting operations the JCO710 series can machine to a depth of cut up to 0.7–1.XDC. In side or profile milling the depth of cut can be as high as 3XDC with a radial depth of cut of up to 0.5XDC. With its centre-cutting frontal teeth design, JCO710 tools can also be used for ramping and helical interpolation machining. The sharpness of the tools' cutting edges and their flute space 'polished' surface quality reduces friction and heat build-up enabling swarf to be evacuated quickly from the cutting zone.
