The combination of CoroMill Plura solid carbide endmills and shrink-fit toolholders with its iLock system is particularly suited to the milling of titanium aeroframe components, says Sandvik Coromant.
The axial forces created when machining ISO S materials with a solid carbide endmill put very high demands on the clamping mechanism. In some situations, despite high clamping forces, the tool can pull out of the chuck. ISO S materials are expensive and often a large number of machining hours are invested in the components.
Sandvik Coromant's iLock tool securing system uses helical grooves ground into the shank of the tool, together with the respective pin drivers in the chuck. This secures the endmill without interfering with the run-out precision of shrink-fit toolholders.
