Sandvik Coromant CoroMill Plura composites end mill joins standard range

CoroMill Plura, the compression end mill for composites that starred on the Sandvik Coromant stand at the recent JEC Europe 2013 exhibition, is now available as a standard tool.

The CoroMill Plura tool combines positive and negative helix angle design to compress the top and bottom of the composite edge. This counters the effects of splintering demonstrated by CFRP materials and many other composites during machining operations. Suitable for edge milling applications on material with a minimum thickness of 6 mm, the CoroMill Plura compression end mill features optimised micro geometry that provides six effective cutting edges for surface finish (Ra) of well under 4 µm and high material removal rates. Conventional up-milling strategies are recommended as these give less vibration. The tool is based on GC1630 grade for extended life, and comes in diameters ranging from 6 to 16 mm, and lengths (total) from 76 to 100 mm. It is also possible to get this milling cutter with diamond coating.
