Robot arm with an electro-magnetic grip

Magnetic clamping technology has mainly been used in stationary workholding systems. Now Schunk has made this technology available fitted to a robot arm for limited space applications. The low weight Magnos MAU magnetic gripper ensures a secure hold on ferromagnetic workpieces with the electro-permanent magnets able to be activated in seconds. Even in a power outage, the handling is absolutely secure hold as electricity is only needed to activate and deactivate the magnets. The Magnos magnet grippers can easily be adapted to any robot arm with a variable number of poles. The pole size is 50 by 50 mm and this ensures the maximum degree of flexibility. The Magnos MAU is suitable for loading and unloading machines and for handling both smaller and larger workpieces. The holding force per pole with an air gap of 0mm is 380 da/N with a cycle time of 20 sec.
