Schunk EGM magnetic gripper provides flexible handling of ferro-magnetic workpieces

The Schunk EGM magnetic gripper is designed without interfering contours for flexible handling of ferro-magnetic workpieces. Unlike the majority of magnetic grippers, the permanent magnets are not actuated pneumatically but electronically. Only a short electrical pulse is required for activation and deactivation.

The Schunk EGM magnetic gripper guarantees that components stay reliably gripped even in an emergency stop or a sudden power loss. It can also handle various workpieces without needing additional time or expenditure for set-up or changeover of gripper fingers. The EGM is designed for 147 kg maximum weight components and ensures that five sides of the workpiece are freely and easily accessible. Under ideal conditions, it provides gripping forces between 1.2 and 22.5 kN depending on the gripper type. The individually achieved holding forces of the magnetic grippers depend on the characteristics of the workpiece surface, taking into account the material type and the workpiece geometry. The EGM operates in a maximum ambient temperature of 40°C, and the activation or deactivation time is 300 to 350 ms depending on the size. The gripper meets IP52 class protection specifications, so it is suitable for the flexible loading of machine tools. Due to its compact design, it is suitable for use in confined spaces. As an option, the EGM is available for handling flat components with pole sizes of 32 and 50. It can also handle round components with a pole size of 30. Moreover, it can be equipped with two, four or eight poles. This makes it suitable for use with any current robot and corresponding application.
